Native Americans were the original inhabitants of the American continents, living in diverse communities across North and South America for thousands of years before Europeans arrived. They built civilizations, tribes, and cultures unique to each region, with rich traditions and knowledge of the land. The other groups—Africans, Europeans, and Asians—came later through exploration, trade, colonization, and migration, so they were not the populations that existed in America prior to European contact.
